Other animals in the Forbidden Lands
Talk0this wiki
The Forbidden Lands, while seemingly lifeless, are populated with a few select species of familiar animals. Each of these can be interacted with in certain ways.

Lizards
Edit
| The most common animal species in the Forbidden Lands. Lizards crawl about most places, out in the open, on rocks, and on save shrines. They can be killed with an arrow or a swipe of your sword, and they will leave behind a tail, which can be eaten.
There are two kinds of lizards: plain black lizards, and white-tailed lizards; the tails of the latter variety give a small bonus to maximum stamina when eaten. |
Tortoises
Edit
| These slow creatures can be found in areas such as deserts, and sometimes at the entrances of temples. When attacked, they will retreat into their shells for a few minutes. They're tough, but can be killed with flash arrows. You can trip over them. |
Hawks
Edit
|
One of the most common animal species in the Forbidden Lands. They fly about in most open areas. Often they will follow you, sometimes more than one at a time, while you are riding on Agro. If you stand still in an open area with hawks and wait, one will likely swoop down nearby. Hawks can be grabbed and ridden through the air for a short while. They can also be killed by arrows.
It should be noted that, though elusive, a particularly large hawk can be found just south of Dirge's cave which many fans refer to as Loki the Hawk. If you attempt to ride Loki, he will usually fly out over a very deep chasm, and proceed upwards to very high altitudes for several minutes, so a considerable amount of stamina is recommended before attempting so. |
Doves
Edit
| Small, white birds that are commonly found at the altar on which Mono rests. They can be killed by arrows, your sword, or Agro. They are also found flying under a few landbridges, especially in the southwest near the cape. It's possible to jump off the bridges here, hang on to a dove, and ride it all the way to the bottom, although this will usually result in a few glitches (see this video). |
Bats
Edit
| Small, dark creatures, which fly about erratically. They congregate in huge groups at the entrances of caves. Though difficult to hit, they can be killed with arrows. | Check the cave tunnels leading to and from Dirge's cave to find a few groups of bats. |
Fish and Eels
Edit
| These can be found in a couple of small lakes in the Forbidden Lands. They can be killed with arrows when at the surface, and grabbed onto underwater.
Eels can be found in the same places as fish, and can be interacted with in the same ways. |
Animals in the Shrine's garden
Edit

Added by FritjovSeveral animals can be found in the Shrine's garden with Mono at the end of the game. A few of them are not seen anywhere else, including a fawn and a chipmunk. The latter two are not present in the original American release.
